Anonymity in surveys

Each survey is set as either non-anonymous or anonymous in the settings.
Once you’ve created the survey you can change the anonymity level in the Build tab under the Setup tab.
Note: You can no longer change the anonymity level once responses have been collected!

Anonymity Levels:

Non-anonymous
Respondents are identified, and all background information you’ve imported will be available in the report.
You’ll also see exactly which email address or phone number each respondent used to answer.
You can view individual responses. Ideal for customer surveys.

Anonymous
Respondents are not identified by their contact information (such as phone number or email).
In an anonymous survey, it’s not possible to identify individual respondents. Invitations and reporting are handled anonymously. You can choose the anonymity threshold for the report: Low, Medium, or High.

This setting determines the minimum number of respondents required before you can filter responses based on background information. Anonymous surveys are especially recommended for employee surveys where maintaining anonymity is important.

Please note that anonymity will affect your ability to view detailed reports, so it should only be used when you don’t need access to individual-level responses.

Anonymity Threshold Options:

  • Low: Only hides contact information

  • Medium: Hides results if fewer than 3 respondents

  • High: Hides results if fewer than 5 respondents

The anonymity thresholds are mostly useful for limiting the possibility to view individual results or results from very few people which would be recognisable. In an imaginary team we could have 4 men and 1 woman, without medium level anonymity we would know exactly what this one woman has replied and we would also know who is the one woman in for example the sales team. This would breach the anonymity so we would recommend using Medium level anonymity in this scenario.

Important: The number of respondents refers to those who actually submitted responses—not those who were invited.
For example, if you're conducting an employee survey and a team has 6 members, we recommend using no more than Medium-level anonymity.
With High, there’s a good chance a few people won’t respond, which may result in no charts appearing in the report.
So, consider response rates and choose a slightly lower anonymity level if necessary.
If the team has around 10 members, you can safely use the High anonymity setting.
