Combining Surveys
You can easily combine two or more surveys. The surveys do not need to match each other question for question.
You’re free to select which questions to include in the merged report, even if the questions are not identical. However, for the combination to make sense, it’s recommended that the questions don’t differ too drastically.
Questions that are exactly the same are automatically matched and merged. For other questions, you can manually decide which ones correspond to each other — or exclude them entirely from the merged dataset.
Step-by-Step Instructions for Merging Reports
The Compare surveys feature can be found in the Analyze tab by clicking the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
After selecting Compare surveys, you first choose the survey you want to merge into the report you currently have open. You can choose from all surveys you have access to.
Once you've selected a survey to merge, you’ll see a menu with a few sections:
-
Matched questions: questions that have been automatically identified as equivalent
-
New questions: questions that do not have an automatic match
Outcomes: Thank you screens and other ending views
Click the drop-down arrow next to the New questions section to review unmatched questions. For each of these, you can open the three-dot menu and select which question in the main survey it corresponds to. Note that Zeffi will always match question types: you cannot combine an open text and a 2D slider here.
If a question does not match any existing question in the other survey, you can exclude it by unchecking the orange checkbox in front of the question.
When selecting a question to match, you’ll only be offered questions of the same type. The graphical interface helps guide your selection and match questions correctly.
Once you’ve gone through all questions and either:
-
matched them to another question,
-
excluded them from the import, or
-
chosen to import them as new questions into the combined report,
Click Merge at the top of the menu. This action will combine the data into a single report.
A new chart will then appear in the report, showing the merged survey data. You can easily compare the results by selecting one survey at a time, adding it to the comparison, and then activating the comparison view. More on comparison: Comparing respondent groups
We recommend saving the merged report once you’re finished, so you can reuse it later. You can use the merged report just like any other Zeffi report.
Please note: If any of the merged surveys are still open and collecting responses, the merged report will not automatically update with new responses — it is not a live report for combined data.
